(OT) Blogger Dashboard Alert

Gentlemen,

I discovered that Blogger has changed its "Dashboard".  Things will look different when you try to post something.

You now have a choice . . . and the New Post Editor does make things a lot easier.

How to enable the new editor

To enable the new editor, first navigate to your blog's Settings | Basic tab. Near the bottom of the page you will see a field called Select Post Editor, and from there you simply need to select Updated Editor and save your settings. That's it!

Anyway, I wanted to alert all of you so that you don't wonder what has happened.

Diplomacy

Monte-Cristo warmly welcomes the new members of our League: Kruppfalz & Skyria and the Kingdom of Katzenstein.

The Presipality recently established preliminary diplomatic exchanges with several other countries: Alstein, a currently 'Keine Namen' one and a complex still only known by the nickname of 'The Wholly Romantic Empire' (?): hopefully they'll join us someday.

The Great Antipodeal Continent of Pangaea is a world on its own, but events there deserve to be followed.

Hesse Holstadt becomes Hesse Boozewick

The Covenant of Colon announced the death of Prince Holstadt during the Battle of Hoegaaden against the forces of the Reich Duchy of Beerstein. Since the Prince had no heirs, his lands have been ceded to Lord Calvert von Boozewick. The composition of the new Hesse Boozewick army is on the Reich Duchy of Beerstein site. Check it out...

Happy Solstice Everyone

'Tis the winter solstice and it seems appropriate that I, as the founder of our group blog, wish all of our members a most joyous Holiday Season.

I have posted a photo of our "Yule Tree" (as usual, click on photo for a closer view). If you look carefully, you will find many "toy soldier" nutcrackers hanging from branches.

We now have well over 70 blog members. Did you realize that we had so many Imagi-Nations?

Please be sure to update your personal blogs with word of new units "raised" during the holidays . . . we all like looking at new toys.

Finally allow me to wish the very best to all of your Imagi-Nations (the vile Stagonians excepted, of course) not only during the holidays, but during the coming new year.

Out tomorrow!

If I may beg the indulgence of the mess for a moment, I have an announcement to make on the Hetzenberg Chronicles.
*
The University of Hetzenberg Press master printers have completed their arcane work and have produced the first volume, to be released in .pdf format tomorrow. The poor fellows are still scratching their heads over why it was easier to produce than the paper-and-ink books they know so well. Their ruffled feathers will be soothed when the print version will appear in due course.

Obituary

To all my Imagi-Nation friends.

Greetings and wish you and your families well.

One of my Confederates in the creation and production of the Direktorat aus Herrschaden has departed from us. His true name is Kevin Jowett, the principal of Battleline Scenics, a small independent business operation based in Australia, supplying wargames products and services.

He leaves a wife and sons. His brother has asked for all to know the business will continue at least for the moment. I do not know if any here (or on other wargamer boards) have orders/outstanding considerations etc, with the business. If so, please mail me direct.

Thank you.

First Olley point

Gentlemen,

things are slowly but surely moving ahead at the Chronicles.

Happy Gaming
Pjotr

In the slums of Tradgardstadt

With a look of immense relief upon his face Freikorp Kaptain Heider began to roll up the yellow flag with the black pelican upon it.It had been a most successful evening - thirty men signed up and all looked like they could handle themselves both on and off the field of Mars.Kaptain Heider settled into the corner of his chair near the roaring fire, the flag having been placed in the sack under the table , and took out a couple of books from his worn and battered satchel. He opened the copy of Aquinas's Summa Theologica and became immersed in another world...His thoughts drifted back to the village school he had taught in before he answered the misguided call of adventure. He had been shocked to meet one of his former pupils tonight who had offered his services as a doctor for the company.A knock at the door brought him back to reality. His face returned to the familiar gruff mask of daily life as he acknowledged his supper with a grunt. Now back to St Thomas and the long hours to read in before the morning brought the problems of another day.
Tomorrow he must meet up with the mounted scouts of the unit- he shivered at the thought of such men...

Does anyone know who made these 25mm figures?

I need to buy nine more of these dragoons, but I have no idea who manufactured them. Does any one recognize the maker? They are 25mm, but on the small side. Thanks...

Battle of Anheuser

A report on the recent Battle of Anheuser is available at the Murdock's Marauders site. Forces from a number of Imagi-Nations took part in this engagement . . . not all turned out as expected.

(note -- this was a proxy battle -- that is, one that was fought by third parties after the actual participants submitted their "Orders of Battle" and their "orders" . . . and the results, as in this case, often involve some surprises.)

Four EvsE Personalities At Battle of Schaumburg

10 October 1759/2009 Battle of Schaumburg. The 4th BIG Battalion BAR game hosted by Der Alte Fritz of Hesse-Seewald. Click on photographs to enlarge them.

Extreme Gallian left flank. Tagewerben was successfully taken by The Fischer Legion and two battalions of the Brigade of Lt. Gen. Armentieres. Near is a portion of 2/Berry. In Tagewerben is 2/Royal Roussillon. Hesse Seewald forces successfully prevented any further Gallian advance from here.

2/Royal Roussillon tangling with Hesse-Seewald Jagers armed with pesky rifles. Both units have earned "elite"status since 1755/2005 in our BAR games.

View from the Gallian left flank. The Pratzen Heights blocks your view of the Gallian center and right flank.

Behind the center you see Gallian Commander in Chief, Lieutenant Général Chevert on a light grey horse. Other EvsE personalities are atop one of our Victory Monuments.

Viewing the battle:

Frankzonia's Hurtszhog in a dark blue coat with associates, Count l'Beauchamp in light green and 'lMarquise de Hottatrot with raised sword. Tradgardland's premier diplomat von Bergmann in a Polish crimson justaucorps. How and when did von Bergmann arrive on the continent?
-----
Wonderfully fun. Der Alte orchestrated a terrific game!
-----

Alarms and Discursions

Amidst the roar and infernal smoke and total confusion of a great battle, The Frankszonian "guests" of Baron Bastille notice a slathered horse being led to the party.
A young Gallian dragoon hands an attache case to the Baron, who looks at a couple of the papers inside, and then quickly wheels his horse towards the rear shouting for an aide.
The messenger remonstrates, pointing to the Hurtshog animatedly, but Bastille brusquely orders the lad away!
L'Comte d'Beauphaup quickly overtakes the rider and inquires, "What news from Frankfurter, M'seur?"
"There seems to be a mutiny among the Frankszonian forces in their southern Stadt Wald, m'Lord," the lad replies, excitedly. "A supply train from Wittenberg was taken, and one of St. Maurice's patrols were ambushed! Several regiments seem involved, and they've got the support of the peasants in the forest!"
After sharing the shock and excitement (and a draft of cordial) with the lad, the count hurries back to the Hurtshog. To their pressing inquiries, he replies, "that foolish Gallian will be buying more of our seltzer and bizmuth, my lords." Then he adds, grimly, "It seems that the inevitable consequences of removing the Hurtshog from such an unstable stew as Frankfurter are already boiling over."

Ancient and Honorable Order of the Tankard
King Leopold IV of Wittenberg
Countess Wilhelmina of Weinpfalz

Baron von J, Kingdom of Unkerlant

A Letter to the Erbprinz of Hesse-Seewald

Our dear Cousin,

Our gallant army has been successful in withstanding the invading Imperium hordes. This Saturday last our noble troops and their stalwart Brittanian allies defeated the attempt by the Imperium army to seize the important cannon foundry in the Barony of Eisenmuhlen. Although the enemy is still in the field before our lines, he has not tried any further advances. We are assured by our military advisors that the current position of our army will ensure the Imperium forces cannot advance into your left rear and threaten your defenses against the Gallians under Msr. Chevert.

I remain your humble and obedient servant,

Friedrich Hapnich, Markgraf of Carpania

A Letter to Lieutenant General Chevert

My dear Cousin,

The Reichsarmeeabteilung Obere Sachsen, under my command by order of the Imperium War Cabinet, has unfortunately not been as successful as I would have desired. Although we were able to defeat the perfidious Carpanians and their Brittanina allies at Alt Kirchendorf along the border, we were not able to continue with that success at Eisenmuhlen on Saturday last. Therefore we have not been able to advance any further and will thus not be able to threaten the left rear of the Hesse-Seewald army near Gotha. I am most apologetic in not being able to further the advance of your illustrious army but the Carpanian nut at Eisenmuhlen was just too difficult to crack.

I remain your most humble and obedient servant,

Bernard von Alderheim, Freiherr, MOGC
Feldzeugmeister of the Imperium army

A Call for a Proxy Battle

I noticed that Murdock of the Duchy of Mieczyslaw fame is looking to host a "Proxy Battle" . . . so if anyone has a battle that they want fought by a neutral party, here's your chance.

He's announced it on his Murdock's Marauders blog (click to go to blog). (Read past the "Battletech" stuff the "Proxy Battle Search" portion of his blog).

He has fought a number of such proxy battles before . . . so if your Imagi-Nation is trying to figure out how to invade another Imagi-Nation which is controlled by someone far far away from you, you might want to take the man up on his offer.

Rectifying an oversight.

*
A semi-official communication from the Reich Duchy of Beerstein College of Honors has indicated that Reich Duke Wilhelm did not receive the Hetzenberg Freundshaft Order during his illustrious visit to the Grand Duchy. Grand Duke Karl is amazed, mortified and angered at the oversight! The Award is granted to Reich Duke Wilhelm forthwith along with Hetzenberg's profound apologies. The official responsible for the oversight has been promoted to command a detachment in the siege lines before Randstadt.

Affair at Alt Kirchendorf

While Prince Ferdinand and Marshals de Contades and de Broglie maneuver after their clash at Minden and Ferdinand's Hesse-Seewald allies fall back through the Fulda Gap, a small battle is fought between the Electorische Armee Thuringen and the Reichsarmeeabteilung Obere Sachsen over an affair involving an attack upon Reich Duke Wilhelm von Beerstein last spring.

Please drop by ColCampbell's Barracks to read the first part of the battle report. Will these actions further imperil the Elector's hold on western Germania? Only time and more fighting will tell.

Von Bergmann

Von Bergman has been finding it hard of late to remain patient and quiet as he regains his health. Although recuperating in the company of comrades old and new he has long since run out of reading material . His thoughts are filled with activity- diplomatic, military and heroic. He remains unsure as to whether he is needed to further the Jacobite Cause in Scotland or whether he should return to the Duchy of Tradgardland his heimat. His eyes look out to sea , staring into the middle distance in pensive manner...

A Hunting we will go ....

The time approaches for the annual visit to Ausfhart by the Hurtshog, Stanken Fhartz.
The old castle of Einfhart has been renovated, and there's a family reunion scheduled for the annual late grape harvest (okay, it's probably later than that in real Germany, but I always liked Reisling Spatlaze Rhine wines).

Since the family is as politically united as Frankfurter itself, this is going to take some ticklish diplomacy ....

Intendent Bastille pours himself a solid cup of Benedictine (Chevert Wine is for more delicate occasions) as he sees L'Comte Beauphaup sashaying towards his office.

Help

The Duchy of Tradgardland is at present undergoing renovations in the shape of a new kitchen and also new flooring and bookshelves in the sitting room and dining room.

We have bought a great number of metal brackets to hold shelves to house the Ducal Library. Sadly we are unable to remove the glue left on the brackets after the removal of the "sticky labels."

Any ideas of what to use to remove the residual stickiness would be really appreciated!

Ausfhart

"Ausfhart" and "Einfhart" being some of the biggest cities in Germany (after all, you can't drive ANYWHERE there without being directed to them), it seemed that I should incorporate them into Frankszonia, where, after all, the House of Fhartzen rules ...
I'd thought of making Ausfhart the village and Einfhart the castle, located somewhere in the Tannesberg ... but am looking for suitable images (this is a family board, remember!) of villages, forested hills, etc. to employ ...
Noticing that some of you folks are a whole lot better than I am at this sort of search ... I figured I'd ask for contributions (money acceptable but not tax deductible ... kidding!).

Interesting days...

An army of occupation and liberation from the Imperium has marched into Saschen-Vindow today. They have been met by cheering crowds who have given them flowers, bread and bottles of the local schnapps.
The local populous have long fretted that they were to become part of the Duchy of Tradgardland since the death of their beloved Duke Peter.
The Imperium commander, Graf von Apfelstrudel, told all who would listen the following-
“As far as the Imperium is concerned Saschen-Vindow is, and always has been, part of the Imperium. We look forward to a long and glorious stay here and hope to pay a visit into Tradgardland to reclaim territory that was once ours!”
Interesting days ahead…

A Real Loss - For those of you who do not know but Ed Studer, owner and operator of Tradition USA, has passed away. I do not know the details of his passing, just that his wife, Miriam, informed me that they would no longer be operating their miniatures business. I don't know how many of you purchased miniatures from Tradition USA but for the several years that I did, I found Ed to be a real gentleman as well as a great businessman. He was always there to back up his product and to answer questions. I had occasion to call him a couple of times and those phone calls never seemed to be inconvenient or for that matter anything but cordial. The world of wargaming needs more entrepreneurs like that. I know I'm going to miss him a lot. - Mike

Diplomatic Affairs

Great Ball last night in the Palace in honour of Countess d'Anis, just returned from a pilgrimage to La Santa Bauma, Mary Magdalene's Holy Cave in Provence.
On her way back to Monte-Cristo the charming Cavenderian ambassador visited the military harbor of Toulon, touring at length the defenses of the town. Given her perfect mastery of the French tongue, the Gardes escorting her (in civilian clothes) did not have to explain why the 'locals' claim the huge naked statue on the main wharf to be that of Amiral de Cuverville.

Some maliciously noticed that the nature of her escapade did not prevent Lady Patronelle and Herr Hermann Geldversteckt of rationalist Herrschaden from spending most of the evening together.

Diplomatic Report from Cavenderia

To: his Majesty Reich Duke Wilhelm of Beerstein
From: His Majesty's most devoted Ambassador General Graf Joffery von Silz
The Royal court has been a vibrant and chaotic place upon news of your near arrival. I and all of Cavenderia look forward to seeing your Majesty. The Prinz, if I may be so bold, had demonstrated notable adjustments to his emotions daily since my arrival. However, upon hearing of his esteemed cousins immanent arrival has been nothing but joyous and exuberant in his pursuits this week.
The Prinz has personnaly inspected every detail of the royal itenerary. Many battalions and garrisons have been called up to provide the utmost security during his Majesties' visit and should prove very relaxing.
The Prinz has told many a tale of your Majesty's exploits at his Uncle's sea manor and has planned a relaxing time there at the conclusion of the trip. So it is with heavy heart that I must relay some disturbig news I have ascertained recently.
In my capacity as diplomat I have heard rumours of Cavenderian privateers attacking Morean vessels and a terrifying coup attempt upon her Royal person, Theofilia. I truly believe no harm will befall Young Basil but have a feeling that Cavenderia may not be as pro-Morea as first thought. I will stay vigilint in my pursuit of information at this time all of this could be only healthy economic coersion. There is one more matter of interest, there seems to be a schedule for two distinct events of important persons visiting on the horizon. Of course, your Majesty and young Basil's visit is certainly spoken of publicly the second visit seems to be of great secrecy and brings an almost euphoric mood upon the Prinz in the brief instances I have overheard the discussion.
We look forward to your arrival,
Your respectful and faithful servant.
